Billionaire Battle, the Google Earth case

The series "Billionaire Battle: The Google Earth Case" premiered on Netflix last Thursday, October 7th. The German production tells the story of two young inventors who created Terravision 1994 and fight for their recognition as creators of the algorithm that is, even today updated by the renowned Google Earth.

It's a battle that portrays the losers' side in the war for recognition of their work and invention, created long before Google's notoriety.

The miniseries, consisting of four episodes, is based on real events and was created by Oliver Ziegenbalg and Robert Thalheim. The plot revolves around the two creators of the algorithm who in 2014 sued the American technology giant for patent infringement. The company ART + COM, which holds the rights to the Terravision 1994 patent, claims the unmistakable similarities between the two map services.

Initially, the creators envisioned the series as a movie, but took the opportunity and ended up plotting a longer format. In the series "Billionaire Battle: The Google Earth Case", the city of Berlin after the reunification of Germany is still portrayed, with techno music clubs, experimental art scene and the world of the first hackers, who were not (yet) taken very seriously. This is the story of a great friendship, where we can also analyze issues such as the real meaning of loyalty and justice in the digital age.
