iOS 17 on iPhone 11: is it worth it?

iOS 17 was already revealed at the last WWDC 2023 in June. Among the great novelties, the new contact cards, Live Voicemail, the Journal application or even the new horizontal standby mode. These are all exciting features for iPhone users... or almost everyone; since the iPhone X, 8 and 8 Plus were excluded from the software update.

Although there are still at least two years to go until you stop receiving software updates, the truth is that some limitations may arise when updating iOS 17 on the iPhone 11. This model, considered the best seller of 2022, will receive the new operating system already in September, and at iServices we analyze the reactions of those who have already tested it.

Features that will be left out on iPhone 11 with iOS 17

Some specialists and content creators, who have been using the beta version of the operating system, stressed that the iPhone 11, with iOS 17, may not have:

• FaceTime video effects (Studio Light and Reactions);

• Point-and-speak functionality, under Accessibility. This is a feature for users with vision problems, which turns on the camera and the iPhone identifies the object or control at which the user is pointing.

• Personal voice. A feature that allows you to recreate a synthesis of the user's voice to establish communication.

• Permanent Standy Mode. Since the iPhone 11 does not have Always-On Display technology, despite activating the new mode while charging horizontally, its screen turns off after 15 seconds.

• Smart prediction of the end of sentences from the keyboard.

Should I be concerned about iOS 17 limitations on iPhone 11?

The short answer is No.

In terms of processing and battery performance, the iPhone 11 doesn't have many differences. The fluidity of work remains the same as ever. Since Apple limits some features that could compromise the processing of older equipment, this update does not bring major differences in its operation.

Some users who have already tested iOS 17 on the iPhone 11 maintain that many of the flaws or bugs they have detected are essentially due to the fact that they are working on a beta version of the operating system. Such flaws should be corrected at the time of the official launch of the new iOS.

What if I want to keep iO 16 on my iPhone 16?

There will be no problem staying on iOS 16. This version of Apple's operating system will continue to receive security updates for some time to come. The only difference that you may notice is related to the fact that you will stop receiving, over time, some of the latest features of your favorite apps.
