C’est vrai! France helps pay for smartphone screen repairs

With increasing concern about the irremediable effects of climate change, it is necessary to take measures that contribute to sustainability and the circular economy. France is about to take a new step on this sustainable path.

This country has been contributing 25 euros for the repair of smartphones for some time now, but from January 1, 2024, the measure comes into force confirming that this will also help repair smartphone screens, with a different value than already implemented. This value can reach €500 depending on the smartphone model. With this measure, France wants to further encourage the repair and consequent extension of the life of smartphones, as their production from scratch involves several polluting processes and materials.

Despite this good news, there are associated conditions. These repairs will only be financially supported if the user proves that the screen was accidentally broken or was caused by natural wear and tear from use. This support will be part of the package already implemented in 2022 called “repair bonus” and encourages citizens to repair electronic devices, preventing them from buying new ones. In addition to smartphones, around 50 products are also included in this package and more and more repair places are joining this incentive.
