Lockdown Mode: Apple strengthens user security

The new and reinforced security mode should only be activated in extreme cases, and will be part of the new features of the new iOS16 and macOS Ventura.

Apple created Lockdown Mode, a security specification that activates a series of restrictions on iPhones and other branded equipment, specially designed for specific people, at severe risk of cyberattacks.

According to the Cupertino technology, Lockdown Mode offers an extreme and optional level of security, especially dedicated to Apple users who work in companies fighting cybercrime. By activating this mode, certain features are blocked, limiting the spectrum of possible hacking.

• • In Messages, all types of attachments other than images are blocked, and features such as link previews stop working.
• • Browsing. Features such as Just-In-Time JavaScript are blocked unless the site belongs to the Lockdown Mode exception list.
• • Invitations and service requests such as FaceTime calls will be blocked if the user has not previously sent an invitation to do so.
• • Wired connections to a computer or accessory are blocked when iPhone is locked.

Apple promises to continually improve Lockdown Mode by adding new features. The company has created a new rewards category in its Security Program, rewarding users who find loopholes in this new mode. Apple can pay rewards up to $2,000,000.
