The new USB protocol promises twice the transfer speed.
USB Promoter Group recently announced the new USB4 2.0, in a news advanced by GSMarena. The new protocol will allow a data transfer speed of 80 Gbps, double the previous protocol.
Cables with this protocol will be compatible with inputs from previous generations, namely USB4 1.0, USB 3.2, USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt 3, as well as current USB-C cables will be compatible with inputs of the new protocol; although they may not match the new transfer speed.
According to the same news, USB4 2.0 will be ideal for connecting high-performance displays, external GPUs, or even attributing desktop computer performance to a laptop.
On November 1st, at the USB Developer Days, more information about this new connection protocol will be shared.
