WWDC 2024 - Apple announces big news!

On June 10, WWDC 2024 took place, where Apple unveiled several new features and did not disappoint anyone. To start with, the partnership with OpenAI, which now allows users to use ChatGPT in a native way on the iPhone. A new Siri was also announced that will have the ability to perform more tasks, and do so efficiently thanks to artificial intelligence.

Apple Intelligence

The most important announcement of this WWDC 2024 was Apple Intelligence, which is the intelligence tool integrated into all of Apple's products. We are talking about iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and more. According to the Cupertino-based company, this works based on the following pillars: texts, images, actions, and personal context.

Users will use this technology to perform various tasks that ensure higher productivity. For instance, it will be possible to summarize a search query in a search engine, but also to read emails or notes. In addition, there is the possibility to get suggestions for replies to emails and messages.

There are also new features, such as image editing where it is possible to remove what we want via voice commands or written requests.

Voice messages received on an iPhone can be transcribed automatically. Still speaking about Apple's artificial intelligence: this will make it possible to create personalized emojis with the Genmoji feature.

It is also worth mentioning that Apple Intelligence, still in beta, will be available on the iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, and iPads and MacBooks with the M1 chip or more recent models released in 2024.

ChatGPT on Apple devices

ChatGPT will be a free tool for every user with Apple products. In addition to creating its own AI model, the Cupertino-based company will have the integration with OpenAI.

To use this feature, it is not necessary to have an account, but there will be a prompt asking whether the user wants to share information and data with the partner company's database.

There is a new Siri

With the introduction of Apple Intelligence, Siri is the big winner. Renewed and more natural, it will become a more personalized and capable virtual assistant in use.

This new Siri will have access to contacts and calendars, be able to summarize messages, notifications, and emails, and respond efficiently to requests. All this without compromising user privacy.

iOS 18 is confirmed

We are now talking about the new operating system for the iPhone, which will have many and major new features. To begin with, personalization. The user gets more control over notifications, shortcuts, and changing the color of applications.

The Messages app has also received several updates with iOS 18. It will be possible to personalize texts with strikethrough and underline effects. The new "Lock an App" feature gives users the power to use Face ID, Touch ID, and the password to secure specific applications, such as Messages and Photos. Even if the phone is unlocked, the user will have to use an authentication system to access an application. Want to hide an application from the home screen? That is now possible in iOS 18 thanks to the "Hide an App" feature that mimics Android's Secure Folder. Get to know the new operating system for Macs

It is called "Sequoia" and will have several features. We highlight "iPhone Mirroring," which allows you to fully see and control your iPhone, for example via a screen on your MacBook. With the iPhone locked, it will also be possible to remotely receive notifications from the phone and interact with them. The novelties of the new macOS Sequoia also allow the user to change the background of a Facetime call.

As for Safari, it will be able to summarize information from visited sites and display only the desired data via the "Reader" tool. Thanks to the partnership with Ubisoft, Apple announced that, among others, the game Assassin's Creed Shadows will be playable on Macs and iPads.

New visionOS version

There is a new version of visionOS, visionOS 2 has new features, such as viewing old photos in an immersive way thanks to the "Spatial Photo" tool. It will also be possible to control applications via gestures. Thus, with this new software, productivity will be increased through multitasking. Video recording will be even better with Canon's spatial lenses.

The iPad gets a new operating system

iPadOS 18 will also have some new features. The tablets will feature the Calculator, which has been given space to take notes and can be used with the Apple Pencil. This way, the user can write down the calculations they want to perform and see the results automatically.

There is room for "SharePlay," a feature that allows you to control someone else's iPad. A good feature for those who are parents and/or caregivers. Another novelty is Smart Script, which optimizes handwriting with the Apple Pencil.

Other Apple novelties

Another feature that is new on the Apple Watch is the integration of a translator on the watch.

Near the end of this event, Apple announced new features for Apple TV, such as the new operating system that will be called tvOS 18. It will have new features to improve the viewing experience of movies and series. As an example, the InSight feature will show all the details about the actors of a certain movie or discover in real time the name of a song that appears in a series. Apple also announced the launch of the streaming service Apple TV+ with new movies and series every week.
