The situation involves a possible ban on tracking devices on the airline's flights.
Lufthansa announced via Twitter last week that AirTags were banned from its flights. The statement came in response to a tweet from a passenger who had read several reports to that effect. The German company classified Apple's tracking devices as “dangerous”.
Later, when confronted with this statement, Lufthansa stated that it did not prohibit the use of AirTags.
The controversy may be around the battery material. According to Techtudo, ICAO, the International Civil Aviation Organization, states that electronic devices in luggage must be turned off. However, the directive specifies the applicability of the rule to equipment with a lithium-ion battery, commonly present in mobile phones. However, the AirTags battery consists of a CR2032 type battery, present in wristwatches, for example.
According to the same publication, although airlines are allowed to adopt their own rules based on ICAO or IATA regulations, Lufthansa “does not have sufficient autonomy to make this type of ban”.
